It is the largest fish in the world, belonging to the order Characiformes and the family Characidae. Known for its massive size and unique spotted skin. Whale sharks can grow to over 12 meters in length and weigh up to 20 tons. Usually living in tropical and subtropical waters, feeding on plankton, especially small crustaceans and small fish. The mouth is very wide and can filter a large amount of seawater to capture food. Despite their large size, whale sharks have a gentle personality and are not aggressive towards humans. Usually active alone or in small groups, sometimes observed swimming with other marine organisms such as stingrays. Whale sharks are a protected species and their numbers are decreasing globally.
